You must be 17 years of age and have a provisional driving licence. You must also be able to read a car number plate from a distance of 20.5 metres (or 20 metres for newer plates). If you need glasses or contact lenses to achieve this, they should be worn for every lesson.
No. It is entirely up to you if you wish to pass your theory test before booking lessons. However, I find that people understand driving theory better when this is learnt alongside practical driving skills. You must pass your theory test before you can book your practical driving test.
This depends upon many factors including prior experience, age, having a vehicle to practise in outside driving lessons and natural aptitude. The DVSA estimates that, on average, it will take most people around 47 hours of taught driving lessons with an instructor and a further 22 hours of practice time, but everyone learns at different rates.
You will learn more quickly if you have lessons every week without large gaps between lessons.
I encourage pupils to book one and a half hour (90 minute) lessons as this allows for more time actually driving and putting your skills into practice, rather than driving to and from your home. This also gives you better value for money.
Most people will prefer to be collected from and dropped off at their home address. However, I can be flexible with pick up within the ST15 postcode area if it is more convenient to be picked up from your workplace or college. These details should be agreed before each lesson so that I can plan a driving route for your lesson. If you are under 21 and still live at home, pick up and drop off points should also be agreed with a parent or guardian.
I charge £58 per one and a half-hour (90 minute) lesson (or £40 per one-hour lesson) which must be paid at least 24 hours in advance of your lesson. Blocks of lessons can also be booked and paid for upfront.
